Lord Vishnumayaswamy being blessed by Siva and Parvathy at Kanakasabha
Peringottukara Devasthanam is an important Spiritual centre in central kerala where devotees from different parts of the world come for pilgrimage. Devasthanam not only safeguards them but patronizes temple arts.Lord vishnumaya who is fond of dance is the divine child Lord Siva, master of Thandava Dance and Parvathy goddess of Lasya. Lord Vishnumaya appears in dancing steps daily during Noonpooja. Here at Devasthanam Dance and Music is very significant here. Special days at Devasthanam is with special poojas in which there will be Keli,Thayampaka or Nadaswaram as Devaseva.Mahapoojas on Amavasi and Pournami Days Will be fulfilled with Shaktheya pooja. The finale of Saktheya Maha pooja is with the presentation of Vishnumaya Mahathmyam Kathakali. That narrates the background of birth, birth, exploits and blessings of Lord Vishnumaya. Episodes will be presented at least 4 times an year. Stories presented here are Kiradhavrutham, Incarnation, Digvijayam, Viswaroopam, Sabha-pravesham,Jalandharavadham, Bhringasuravadham and Vishnumaya Pooja. Lord Siva starts for divine hunt & Goddess Parvathy consoles her devotee Koolivaka
Scene I:- Lord Siva approaches Parvathy and said “ I am leaving for hunting alone. Don’t try to accompany me”. parvathy said “ You don’t used to go alone? Why now? Without any words Siva went for hunting.
Scene II:- Siva in the form of a hunter reaches a forest. He drives away cruel animals to protect poor creatures. He sees birds and animals in different parts of the forest. Then he identifies the forest as the place where Koolivaka lives and lord Siva sees Koolivaka playing in front of her hermitage. Then Siva decides to approach and woo her.
Scene III:- Koolivaka in her dancing steps. When it was about to finish Siva in the form of hunter approaches and said “Don’t waste your beauty, let us be united” . She said “I welcomed you as god since you are a guest but-don’t misbehave. My plan is to live as devotee of Parvathy” Siva said. “ A woman is to marry a man to lead happy life. Without a man woman is worthless”. Koolivaka said “I have nothing to think than being a devotee of Devi”. On hearing this Siva assumed his original form and appeared before with the words “ Be prepared to be the mother of Siva’s son . I will return soon”.
Scene IV:- Koolivaka prayed to her deity “ Protect me. My only wish is to be your devotee. Will the Lord that fulfilled Devi’s wish will destroy my wishes to be your devotee”. Parvathy appeared before the devotee and said “Siva will have a child in your body but it will not affect you”. With these words Parvathy assumed the body of Koolivaka and awaited Siva’s arrival.

Scene IV:- Vishnumaya’s divine appearance . He looks the world around , the forest and then sees parents. Siva and Parvathy with Vishnumaya appear before Koolivaka. The lord and Devi depute Koolivaka to look after the child for some years.
Koolivaka devi sees off her foster son Vishnumaya & Vishnumaya as Mahishavahana
Scene I:- Sage Narada reaches the hermitage of Koolivaka and tells “ You are like Shabary who
guided Sreerama. You are a great mother to look after son of Siva. But you should send him to his
real parents Siva and Parvathy”. Koolivaka agrees to his suggestion.
Scene II:- Vishnumaya’s divine appearance. He looks up to see gathered gods, looks the world and then looks around the forest. Then he sees a brightness in the sky coming down. At first he doubts it as sun god or fire god. But as their movement is in different way he concludes it as something else. Then on seeing Veena in hand chanting Narayana, he concludes it as Narada. Then he gets ready to receive him. Sage Narada tells Vishnumaya that his life should not be wasted in the forest and many deeds are to be done by him for the world. Then he asks Vishnumaya to go to Kailas mountain.
Scene III:- Kooli vaka asks Vishnumaya to give up forest to live in the vast world. Then Vishnumaya tells that he is only a child who can’t leave mother and forest. Koolivaka said “Now you are not a child. It’s time for you to leave us for serving the world.” Then Vishnumaya sets out his journey to Kailas to meet real parents. The people in the forest is troubled by a demoness. On hearing the sorrow of the people, Vishnumaya decides to destroy her and challenges her for a battle.
Scene IV:- The demoness attacks the people. At this time Vishnumaya drives away it and it changes into a good form person she praises Vishnumaya.
Scene I:- Lord Vishnu Maya’s divine appearance- Salutes the Gods above, looks the world, concludes with looking around the forest. He then protects children from over flowing river. Protects poor animals from cruel animals. Then he decides to accept the Mahisham as his carrier.
Scene II:- Scene starts with the appearance of Mahisham. Vishnumaya enters and commands it to be his vehicle. At first it was not ready. Then Vishnumaya tells it about the divine mission. “ It is the duty of everyone to lead pious life” . Then he orders to carry him to Kailas to visit his father and mother Lord Siva and Parvathy. Then they sets out the journey to Kailas.
Scene III:- At the first entrance of Kailas Nandikesha is stationed to guard. He then recollects “ I was once a servant of Daksha. Then I became a devotee of Lord Siva. Now I can chant the name of my lord as I wish. I even play drum for the lord’s divine dance”. Then Nandikesh Sees somebody approaching and decides to stop his advance. Nandikesha requests to allow him to go to see Lord Siva Nandi was not ready to let him and uses rude words. Vishnumaya says “ I am Siva’s son. Do let me go to see my father”. When this request was denied Vishnumaya shows Viswaroopa, the original form of Lord Vishnu. Nandikesh was moved by the sight and escorts Vishnumaya to Kailas.

Scene I:- Vishnumaya’s divine appearance. Vishnumaya looks the world, sees gods blessing him,
then sees the forest. Then he enacts how he travelled to Kailash mountain riding on his Buffalo.
Then he meets Nandikesha and comes to meet Lord Siva and Parvathy.
Scene II:- Ganapathy and Muruka in Kailash. Muruka is sad and gloomy of unknown reasons. He says “I am despaired, I have no interest for sports. I don’t find happiness even to wander in the world or to gather knowledge”. Ganapathy said “Dont be sad, this is Holy place where Siva and Parvathy live”. Here there will be no cause for sorrow. While the conversation was going on smoothly a cold breeze that touched Vishnumaya makes Muruka gay. Muruka said “Brother now I’m happy, but I don’t know the reason”. Ganapthy said “Reason for your happiness is our brother’s arrival”. Vishnumaya comes there. The holy brothers welcome Vishnumaya. They dance delightfully. Then they proceed to meet Siva and Parvathy.
Scene III:-Siva and Parvathy in Kailash are very gay. Siva calls his wife Parvathy, “Mother of virtuous sons” Parvathy says that all her goodness is due to Siva’s kindness. Then Siva said “Be prepared to give a gift. Here comes your worthy son.” Vishnumaya comes to meet Siva and Parvathy. Siva welcomes him and Parvathy gives him weapons and ornament for Vishnumaya. Vishnumaya knows about the plan of demon Jalandhara to attack Kailasa and Vishnumaya volunteers to challenge Demon Jalandhara. Then he challenges the enemy for a fight. He sets out for the fight.

Scene I:- Vishnumaya’s divine appearance. The Lord sees the world, gods above and the forest
around. Then he expresses his happiness to meet Siva and Parvathy. In this happy moment
Vishnumaya volunteers to vanquish the Demon who was to attack kailash mountain. Siva and
Parvathy bless him. Then he Challenges the demon for the fight.
Scene II:- After conquering Indra Demon Jalandhara boasts off his courage and happiness. Then he decides to win Parvathy. Before he could start for the adventure Vishnumaya enters and challenges him for a balltle. During the battle Vishnumaya shows his original form and the demon is killed.
Scene III:- As Vishnumaya had Killed Demon Jalandhara Indra being overjoyed praised vishnumaya and said “Now that you have killed Demon Jalandhara and proved fit to be Siva’s son. Let you live in Heaven.Vishnumaya said “I prefer to live on the earth amid the sufferers and help them.Then Vishnumaya sees off Indra.”
Demon Bringa wooes Koolivaka & Lord Vishnumaya and Goddess Bhuvaneswary
Scene I:- A demon by name Bhringa comes to the forest in which Koolivaka is living peacfully,
On Seeing her beauty the demon invites her for making love. Koolivaka is not ready to accept
it. The demon suddenly tries to molest her. At this time a divine power prevents him from the
Scene II:- Vishnumaya’s divine presence. He looks at the sky, then looks around he earth, then he looks the forest. Suddenly he knows that Koolivaka devi is wishing to meet him. When he was about to start a messenger comes from the forest requesting him to visit Koolivaka devi. Then he consoles the messenger with nice words and starts with the messenger.
Scene III:- Koolivaka thinks “ It’s long since Vishnu has come? He may not know about the problems here. He had promised to come the moment I think. Let me think about him”. As Koolivaka began thinking to meet Vishnumaya, he appears before her. Koolivaka tells about the trouble caused by Demon Bhringa. On hearing this Vishnumaya prepares for the journey to battle field. Then he challenges the demon. In the battle that follows Vishnumaya kills him.
Hanuman inform news about Sita in Lord Ramas’s ear & Goddess Bhuvaneswary blesses Velumuthappan
Scene I:- Velu, a yogi like man in Peringotukara becomes sad on seeing the suffering villagers.
He prays Bhuvaneswary Devi for a remedy. Devi appeared before him and said “All problems will be
solved if you start worshiping Vishnumaya”. Then he proceeds to Triprayar for his routine worship.
Scene II:- Sree Rama and Hanuman are in conversations. Rama asked “ Will you please tell again about the news of Sita. The more I hear the more I wish to hear”. Hanuman Said “What a wonder. I have told this many a time but still you want to hear it”. So hear “ I saw Sitadevi in Ashoka Garden like a lightning among the clouds of demoness”. Rama becomes happy. Hanuman asks ‘ Why are you so gay.?’ Rama said “ Hanuman, see a good devotee comes here. Let us bless him”. Sree Rama and Hnauman appear before Velu and bless him. Then Velu gets the ldol of Vishnumaya and sets out to his ancestral home.
Scene III:-Vishumaya’s divine appearance. Then he thinks about Bhuvaneswary Devi’s wish to see him. Vishnumaya goes to see Devi. Devi asks him to go and live in a new place and become the lord of Velu and such devotees. Vishnumaya obeys these words and proceeds to Peringotukara. On the way the lord sees Theevra river, Thriprayar temple and Velu moving to the village with the idol.
Scene IV:- Velu does Vishnumaya Pooja. Then Lord appears before him. Then as wished by Velu Vishnumaya shows him the viswaroopa. Then Velu gets Salvation in the feet of Vishnumaya.
